Align the Signs 2022: Bridging Communities and Promoting Inclusivity in Healthcare for the Deaf

There is still so much to be done in empowering people with disabilities in the Philippines. Included in this endeavor is strengthening their access to healthcare services. One of the ways to improve communication and awareness, particularly in and for the Deaf, hard of hearing, and mute community, is the promotion of the Filipino Sign Language (FSL).

With this advocacy in mind, the members of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority substantiate their unified passion into a realistic event that embodies the Sorority’s definition of service. The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority Batch 2026 is proud to present “Align the Signs: Bridging Communities and Promoting Inclusivity in Healthcare for the Deaf”.

Align the Signs is a one-day event that will be held virtually via Zoom on July 9, 2022. The event shall be composed of stories shared from both members of the Deaf community and healthcare workers, games, and an interactive sign language class. Our target audience includes allied medical professionals and students; however, the event will be open to anyone interested in learning more about FSL in the medical setting.  We hope that these activities will raise greater awareness of the challenges members of the Deaf community face, and ultimately result in the improved quality of life and care for those with disabilities. As future members of the medical profession, we believe that it is integral that we are able to interact effectively with our patients regardless of their condition. This would enable us to listen more keenly to their community and respond better to their needs.
