PUP’s March Through the Celebration of Diversity: Amplifying and Strengthening the Advocacy Towards Equality

Each color symbolizes a different sector of the LGBTQIA+ Community spectrum. While the Pride flag is available in an infinite number of configurations, the main version features the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. However, there is a reason why red is the first color on the flag; it represents the movement and resistance of the oppressed LGBTQIA+ Community and it is the color that amplifies the passion and burning desires of their voices.

And as the official student organization of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines for people with diverse SOGIE, KASARIANLAN, prepares to celebrate its annual pride march this March 24, 25 and 26 via Zoom, it will be a continuation of the organization's commitment to advocating for the people; from this year's theme, "Alpas: Pasismo Buwagin, Sistema Baguhin," the event will be more than just a celebration of pride, as it will also serve as a protest against the numerous causes that the organization seeks to amplify.

This year's PUP Pride celebration is the continuation of last year's "Tindig, Laban: Kolektibong Kasarinlan," which is a campaign to rally and urge everyone to come out and take their battle for equality to the streets. Hence, this year is one of consolidation and a call to fiercely commemorate everyone's pride, since it is the appropriate time to campaign for and strengthen the call of the people. Among the demands raised this year are: Ligtas na Balik Eskwela, a concrete plan from the government to combat the pandemic, Gobyernong Maka-Pilipino, Hindi Pasismo, as well as challenging the candidates for the 2022 elections to become more inclusive in their platforms, and also allowing the Anti-Discrimination Bill or SOGIE Equality Bill to become law and become officially implemented.

Just like last year, the PUP Pride 2022 is intended to induce proud PUPians, academic organizations, student councils from other departments, fraternities and sororities, college departments and offices, and outside organizations with similar objectives and advocacies. Mrs. Tan's and Mx. Effy's performances will add a splash of color to the celebration. Furthermore, Morena Modern Filipina will sponsor the event and this will be made possible by the support of KASARIANLAN’s community partners, which include the ASEAN SOGIE Caucus (ASC), Lagablab, Babaylanes, and other student organizations.
