BingoPlus Foundation FutureSmart Scholarship Program in Search of 10 Deserving Students to get Full College Education Scholarship

Software engineering is a systematic engineering approach to software development and was started in the late 1960s as a new engineering discipline concerned with all aspects pertaining to software production. It encompasses concepts, principles, theories, techniques & tools that can be used for developing high-quality professional software.

Career Paths for Software Engineers

A software engineer is a person who applies the principles of software engineering to design, develop, maintain, test, and evaluate computer software. Career options for software engineers are the following:  Applications developer, Cyber security analyst, Game developer, Information systems manager, IT consultant, Multimedia programmer, IT specialist, code developer, & more.

Applications developer — Also known as a software developer or software architect, an application developer is responsible for developing and modifying source code for software applications. These applications are aimed at aiding customers with computer tasks or programs.

IT consultant — IT specialists or consultants provide computer & technical support to schools, businesses, and other organizations. As an IT specialist, you install and oversee the network, database, software, and hardware of your client or company to ensure they run smoothly and are safe from threats. Your job duties may include testing devices, troubleshooting software, and training employees on how to use the network effectively. IT specialists may also help create and manage data storage solutions and make recommendations when the organization should upgrade its systems.

Why Demand of Software Engineers is High

As technology becomes more important for businesses across many industries, the need for innovative software and engineers to develop it grows as well. When a company identifies an area for improvement, it may hire software engineers to help in the development of systems and software to take advantage of the opportunity. This creates a broad range of career options for individuals trained as software engineers.

Here in the Philippines, the average pay of software engineers ranges from  ₱223,000 up to ₱1,000,000 per year according to the PayScale website. An entry-level software engineer with less than 1 year experience can expect to earn an average total compensation of ₱299,130. An early career software engineer with 1-4 years of experience earns an average total compensation of ₱417,441. A mid-career software engineer with 5-9 years of experience earns an average total compensation of ₱678,539. An experienced software engineer with 10-19 years of experience earns an average total compensation of ₱933,405. In their late career (20 years and higher), employees earn an average total compensation of ₱899,800

The average pay of graduates of software engineering is really high compared to other courses so more and more incoming university students are choosing the said course. But their burden now is the high tuition fee of software engineering, especially if they want to study in top and reputable educational institutions.

Thankfully, there are institutions and foundations that offer free full scholarships to those deserving students.
