Brillante Mendoza to lead ‘Thy Womb’ Screening, Q&A at SM Cinema Baliwag
Internationally-acclaimed indie film director and 2012 MMFF Best Director, Brillante Mendoza will showcase his latest work in a special screening at the Cinema 1 of SM City Baliwag on February 1, 2013.
Students and educators from Baliuag University will gather to view Thy Womb, a film that tackles on the struggles of a childless Badjao couple played by Nora Aunor and Bembol Roco. Set in the picturesque island province of Tawi-tawi, the film also cultivates a deeper appreciation of a rich culture highlighted through religious rituals, wedding traditions and Muslim practices.
Participants will also get the opportunity to interact closely with Director Mendoza through the Question and Answer portion. The open forum will likewise serve as a venue for the students to share their insights and ask queries about filmmaking techniques to how each story was conceptualized.
In 2011, the renowned director opened a nationwide film literacy project through the Brillante Mendoza Film Festival in partnership with SM Supermalls. With films depicting stories that mirror the true face of the society, the project aims to develop the viewers’ interest on the uniqueness of the indie-film genre and the varied Filipino values and culture shown in each movie.
Mendoza’s ward-winning independent films like Manoro, Kaleldo, Lola and Foster Child continues to be screened in different SM malls across the country which will be participated by film enthusiasts and young students from public and private schools. For 2013, the Brillante Mendoza Film Festival will make stops in SM malls in Lipa in Batangas, Antipolo, Olongapo, Tarlac and Baliwag in Bulacan.
