In its continuous effort to promote Bulacan’s rich and diverse history, the Samahang Pangkasaysayan ng Bulacan (SAMPAKA) together with SM City Baliwag organized an array of exciting events in celebration of our nation’s freedom.

Get a chance to walk down memory lane with the Bulacan ng mga Bayani Exhibit Launch on June 11. Rare photos of the revolutionary war period will be on display as well as an informative presentation of the 3 republics, the Real de Kakarong de Sili, the Republic of Biak na Bato and the Republic of Malolos which were all established in Bulacan. To share an inspirational talk on Bulacan being the cradle of noble heroes is National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario.

On June 12, proudly sing the Philippine national anthem as the traditional Flag Raising and Waving takes place at the mall’s façade area. Rekindle the sweet notes of Filipino songs as various choir groups in town compete for the Celebrate Freedom Singing Contest at the mall’s Event Center.

To pay tribute to a Bulakenyo who led in the Siege of Baler, the SAMPAKA led by Isagani Giron and historian Jaime Veneracion will be launching the book Remembering my Lolo Simon Ocampo Tecson by Luiz Tecson on June 13, Wednesday at SM City Baliwag Event Center . Expected to grace the event are Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, National Historical Commission of the Philippines’ Director Fe Mangahas, Former Director Emelita Almosara of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Ms. Gemma Cruz-Araneta as the guest of honor.

In partnership with the Department of Education and the Provincial Government of Bulacan, a scriptwriting contest among the public school students in the province will take place on June 15, 10 am. Later in the afternoon, a grand presentation of the Gawad SAMPAKA to Milagros Enriquez, a hero of Bulacan’s Culinary Heritage will culminate the Freedom Week celebration.
