IntelliPen - The Intelligent Pen

I was there at Press Launch of Intellipen at Cafe 1771, El Pueblo in Ortigas. IntelliPen digitally records and stores everything you write, sketch or draw – wherever you are and on any surface. You can also store thousands of pages on its Flash Memory drive and download later to a PC to edit, convert to text, email, print and save. Teachers can also use IntelliPens in much the same way a chalkboard or smartboard is used.

To use the Intellipen, you must first attach the sensor (see below) to any paper. Then write, draw or doodle or you want and this will appear on the computer screen. It can recognize hand writings too, and then convert it into text. A special software (Windows 7, Vista, XP & MAC OS X compatible ) that comes with the package makes this possible.

How does it work? The Intellipen technology is based on the transmission of ultrasonic acoustic waves between 2 or more devices via a Transmitter and a Receiver. The Transmitter, embedded within the IntelliPen, sends constant acoustic signals to the Receiver that in turn, uses them to measure the distance and position of the device. The Transmitter sends a unique ultrasonic signal with specific time and spectrum characteristics assigned to each device to the Receiver, constantly informing it of its position. The Receiver ”hears” the whistle and uses the sound to estimate with pinpoint accuracy the timeframe it takes the acoustic wave to travel from the IntelliPen to the Receiver, by calculating time-of-flight (or TOF).
