Western Union offers zero transfer fee coupon from the U.S. to Philippines to encourage consumer giving to support Filipinos affected by flooding

In response to the catastrophic flooding caused by tropical storm Maring in the Philippines, The Western Union Company (NYSE:WU), a leader in global payment services, is offering a coupon code for a fee free1 money transfer to help Filipino flood victims.

To further help people contribute to relief efforts, Western Union is implementing a ‘zero transfer fee’ coupon that can be used for all money transfers sent from the United States to the Philippines through participating Agent locations, westernunion.com, and the company’s mobile app beginning Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30, 2013. The coupon code is: FLOODRELIEF.

Money is available in cash for pick up in minutes at any of the more than 8,300 Agent locations in the Philippines, or can be sent directly to a Philippine bank account by initiating a Western Union® Direct-to-Bank money transfer.

Severe tropical storm Maring brought torrential rains to the country, displacing over one million Filipinos. Although never making landfall, immediate relief was difficult to manage due to the flooding caused by the southwest monsoon. Almost 80 percent of Metro Manila, Central and Northern Luzon are estimated to have been submerged by floodwaters
