The Art of LIGAW: On Courtship and Being Lost

The Art of LIGAW” is a story about Jake (played by Epy Quizon), a 40-something man, who has yet to meet a woman that makes him want to take out to dinner, or to walk home. All of his relationships have been in the realm of casual, and it appears he has never been made to work for them. Until Carisse (played by KZ Tandingan), that is, a young woman who seems confused by the idea of "ligaw" as well.

Starring the award-winning Filipino actor Epy Quizon and Asia's Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan in her debut film. Produced by CoreMinds and MindFuel, “The Art of LIGAW” is the first feature film of director Jourdan Sebastian. The film was shot entirely in Davao City.

Graded A by Cinema Evaluation Board of the Philippines. Rated PG by the MTRCB. Opens Nov 13 in cinemas nationwide!

"Mapugngan pa lagi ang baha, pero dili ang gugma," which roughly translates to “You may stop the flood from gushing, but you can never stop love,” is what the movie is trying to imply.

The movie talks about the “art of courtship” which is already getting obsolete here in the country caused by the advent of new communications technology, and the “art of being lost” in love since LIGAW means courtship and being lost.

I was one of the first lucky few to watch the movie on its premiere night in Cinema 7 of Trinoma on Nov 5.

At first, I lowered my expectation for this movie since this is just KZ Tandingan's acting debut but she proved me wrong. The girl can act and she's a natural actress! Actually on the premiere night, KZ is crying maybe because of nervousness that people wouldn't like the film but I actually love it, and I'm already looking forward for her next acting project.

KZ Tandingan and Epy Quizon has an undeniable chemistry. This movie made Epy looks different to me. I didn't know that he can pull off a heartthrob role, and he did it flawlessly! This is contrary to his usual villain roles. “Ang pogi pala nito ni Epy” I just said to myself. 😂

Long Mejia as usual, provides the comic relief in this movie and he's still effective! Roxanne Barcelo plays as the serious English-speaking boss of KZ. The Voice Kids' JK Labajo also had a cameo here.

This movie was well-written, I just believe it needs a little editing because some scenes are dragging at times. For me the movie deserves a 4/5 stars!

Since its release, the trailer for The Art of Ligaw has gotten over 5.1 million views on Facebook. Looks like the future is bright for this movie!
