Amaya on GMA-7

Since I saw the trailer of the upcoming shows on GMA-7, Amaya immediately caught my attention. The series is also dubbed as the first epicserye in the Philippines, and this is the biggest TV project of the Kapuso Network to date. The said series will start airing on Monday, May 30, 2011 on GMA Telebabad Block.

Marian Rivera plays as the warrior princess, Amaya. Marian Rivera said that is the first that she will topbilled a series that has a original story and not a remake.

The story is set in Central Visayas in the 1500s, this is the time of Rajah Mangubat's reign. Rajah Mangubat (played by Gardo Versoza) is known as a good warrior and an undefeated one but a priestess prophesizes that he will be defeated by a girl, the one that has a snake for a twin.

Newcomer Mikael Diaz will play as Lumad, the warrior Uripon that will fell in love with Amaya while actor Sid Lucero (pictured below) is Bagani, the prince that is set to replace his father's throne. He will also fell in love with Amaya.

Amaya is set to be shown Monday night, but I have the privilege to see it along with other bloggers at SM The Block, two days before! The event is attended by bloggers, members of the press and the cast and crew of the newest primetime series on the Kapuso Network.

Fans & friends of Marian Rivera are already lining up when we arrive.

Mikael Diaz is already here!

Roxanne Barcelo too! =) She will portray as Kayang, the Alipin of Marikit.

She is Marikit. Yup! that Rochelle Panganiban, she will play the role of the eldest daughter of Datu Bugna (Raymond Bagatsing) and Dian Lamitan (Gina Alajar). She is greedy just like her mother and will fall in love with Bagani so she make sure that Amaya will suffer.

Amaya is under the helm of Mac Alejandre.

After Marian Rivera arrived, press people started asking her about what she feels that about her new project, "Well, I'm very thankful sa mga big boss ko from GMA sa walang sawang pagtitiwala." and then all of her fans screamed. "Manood kayo ha?! Kung hindi lagot kayo sakin" she jokingly bursted out to her fans.

This is the first time I've met Marian Rivera, I was actually half expecting that she would snob some people who are asking to have a photos with her, but not. She cheerfully give in to any photo requests until the security guards stopped the fans since the screening is about to start.

To start, I don't expect anything grand or spectacular in Amaya, I lowered my expectation because that's what I do when I don't want to be disappointed on a certain movie.

The first few scenes we're amazing especially when the warship called Karakoa entered the scene, I am told that this was built by fifty local artisans and has a value of millions of pesos. It looks really authentic. I have to be honest, not all scenes are perfect there are some scenarios where the CGI used for the big boats looks so fake but not all scenes are like that.

The costumes designed by Gino Gonzales looks really authentic, they really researched very well. The tattoo on the characters especially on the Datu's and his warriors looks so real. It really helps when you seek some help from the people who really knew history, I am told that this series is guided by two UP historians.

On the characters, Marian Rivera didn't appear yet but I really have to commend Ana Capri and Lani Mercado on a scene where they are confronted by Gina Alajar, they're so good! Watch out for that scene.

We we're shown the pilot episode of Amaya and so far I'm happy with the outcome. I'm hoping they can sustain the same production value as the day go by and I'm also hoping that the story flow will keep it's fast pace so it will not be dragging.

They're waving at Marian! :)

Outside I saw a lot of fans still waiting for those celebrities to come out. I'm really fascinated by these dedicated fans who will troop the rain and they will bring their placards/tarpaulin just to show their support to their idol. I ask one girl on what her reaction to the pilot episode of Amaya. "Maganda siya!!!!" I also asked what's her favorite scene on the first episode, she answered, "Yung kay Lani Mercado!"

"Can I take picture of you guys?" I asked and they just scream and scream LOL! this is such a fun group :)

"What can you say on what you saw?" This time I asked the girl in white. "Bitin! Pero effective si Gina Alajar ha!" Kaya lang wala pa si Marian Rivera!" and then the group scream again :D They also show us their tarpaulins and they told me they are member of Marian Rivera's fans club.

Just like what I said the pilot episode live up to my expectation I hope they'll continue that way. Don't forget to catch Amaya on GMA Telebabad and tell me what you can say! :)

  10. the costumes really looks authentic but watch out for the haters..i'm sure they will question the "topless" scenes and the bahags which the men are wearing..sasabihin ng mga moralista kuno na malasawa ang costumes, lalo na pag nag number 1 na sa ratings ang amaya..believe me, naka-ready na ang mga haters and gusto nila ang magiging trending ay amaya flop.

  11. well all i can say is, let's just support what our TV stations has to offer, whether it be from kapuso, kapamilya or kapatid network since they are all trying to work really hard to make better shows for us. but i hope amaya will continue to interest the people watching it just like how we watch the korean historical shows. I believe its time for us to be interested with our own history too. I hope it will boost the interest in Filipino children too. Because that's what we don't have nowadays, the appreciation for our history, our culture.

Minsa hayop, manok, ibon, itlog, dugo, ensenso at minsan may tugtug o ritwa.

  13. I just saw it last night and man...I like it from the production to cast.talaga nmn pinagkagastusan and I learned so many terms na ha in such a short period of time watching it.I think I have to write it down,I missed my history class heheh...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I guess its alright! BUT...BUT ...it is historically inaccurate. The culture and practices portrayed by "Amaya" the TV show is misleading to how OUR ancestors lived. I bet you more than anything, filipinos will somehow base their view of our ancestors lives with the Amaya show. The Tattoo's are very very inaccurate, although the placement of the tattoos in their bodies are similar to the ancient visayan people. BUT the patterns are just made up and are very inaccurate. the actress is pretty though, shes smoking hot! hehe...i guess its only good for eye candy

Don't pretent you know everything when you don't, kung ayaw nyo, then don't want..it's that simple..huwag nang manira para lang ihirit nyo na mas maganda ang show sa kablila na supper rubbish and low class ang pagkagawa.

Now tell me, yan ba ang world class?

  19. i thought sa province nalang namin uso na pag may lunar eclipse sinasabi ng mga matatanda na kinain ng "bakunawa" ang buwan so kailangan naming mag-ingay shouting "ibalik ang buwan". and to my surprise, they've shown it in Amaya. Kudos!

  27. Di tama ang pronunciation ni Gng. Gina Alajar ng word "BULAWAN" Instead of (bul-a' wan), it should be ( bu' la-wan).

Dialect ho namin yang ginagamit nyo kaya ayusin ninyo.

  32. I haven't had time to watch night shows/seryes since I came here in CDO for my internship. I am assigned in night shift, that's why. However, the trailer and opinion of the viewers make me curios to watch. After my training, I will surely won't miss this what they called epic serye. Indeed, this is the first time that Marian Rivera will have an original serye. BTW, I really love this girl. Very beautiful, in very fairness.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, we cannot please everybody. I love watching Amaya because of Marian. I really don't care about the inaccuracies. As what the writer Susan Doctolero said, this is a historical fiction and this is not 100% based on our history. It might have some similarities, but not 100% accurate. Good Luck to Amaya. We love you Marian.

    ReplyDelete
  34. bakit niyo naman pinatay si bagatsing?

    ReplyDelete
  35. The teleserye is becoming interesting as the day goes by. I am hoping that the writers will do a good job to sustain the viewers interest. However I do have some comments which I hope would help improve the series:

    1. Make the dialogues of the characters consistent. There was a scene between Marian and Gina after Bugna's death wherein the word "Pinaslang" was used and afterwards changed to "Pinapatay".

    2. The make-up of the casts is for modern day make-up.

    3. There are Uripons who are not topless as the others

    4. Ryan Eigenmann's Mestizo skin should have been made darker as he portrays a warrior;so with the other lady Uripons like Sheena Halili. I can understand Marian and Glaiza being mestizas as they have not been exposed to the sun since they were young in the story.

    5. The supposedly "gory" massacre of Datu Bugna and his banwa; there should have been lots of blood on the ground esp on Bugna who was stabbed I think 3x by Rajah Mangubat with his long sword.

I do hope Mac Alejandre would focus on details such as these so that the epic serye would be more realistic. It would help if the production team would also seek help from the National Historical Institute for accurate information.

  38. ...at least GMA is doing their best...its the story that matters not the costumes or the tattoos. Those people are only playing their part. Who knows how our ancient people had lived their lives before? There a some books that can tell us and also some people who has knowledge about the way people had lived in the past but no one knows exactly. diba? so learn to be patriotic at least sometimes. You are discriminating your own fellow people...its a shame!

  47. since its a pre-colonial theme, i wish they didnt use spanish loanwords like para, pero, o, intindi, pwede, sabi, etc. & the Malay language they used in this show also have European words. i really like the idea of the show.... first i was criticizing their historical accuracy, but then i realized it is the first of its kind & then they are NOT portraying one particular group of people, if you notice... the tattoos are visayan, the house(torogan) is maranao, the baybayin script is tagalog, their religion is native mixed with some hinduism. I hope more shows like Amaya be produced in the future.

May kilig factor, sana magtambal ulit sila. Ang galing ng AMAYA. Kakaiba at magaling lahat ang cast. Congrats sa GMA 7 and to Marian Rivera for being the undisputed PRIMETIME QUEEN.

  50. Die hard Marian Rivera fan ako, and bilib ako sa pagkakagawa ng Amaya, but at this point of the serye nababagalan ako ng sobra sa phasing, di ba? I am sure you will agree with my obsrvation.

  55. After reading all the post, ther is one conclusion that I have made: tayng mga pinoy mahilig pa rin magkumpara kng anong meron tayo sa iba. Kng wala kayong masabing d makabuluhan, shut up. If you dnt like watching it then huwag na kayong manood. after kahit d kayo manood na taga ABS ok AMAYA can still maintain its ratings.. Atleast kng sino ang nanonod ng amaya after nila mapanood they would say "Im proud being a Filipino".

  56. i started to hate GMA-7 since they released Zaido a rip off of TOEI's "Shaider" and now i never thought that they could come up with this original storyline and detailed style of what they call "epic-serye" thumbs up for amaya!

In fact, Amaya is even more powerful than Bagani as she is not only the better warrior, but she has the spirits at her disposal.

Her retreat to the mountains brought her mystery to her persona. By becoming mythical, her name has become a legend.

73. Hi! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog
platform are you using for this website? I'm getting tired of Wordpress
because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking
at alternatives for another platform. I would be great if you
could point me in the direction of a good platform.
