3rd Jaime Corpuz Book, Launched at SM

TRACING ROOTS. Mr. Jaime S. Corpuz, a known local historian from Bulacan, expressed his gratitude to all the people who supported the launched of his book entitled MOHON: Mga Bulakenyong Biyaya ng Kasaysayan at SM City Marilao. The book is composed of names that had played a vital role in the Philippine history as well as personalities who excelled in their chosen fields and brought pride to the province of Bulacan. Mohon is his 7th book and 3rd to launched at SM City Marilao. Mr. Corpuz is the My City My SM honoree for Bulacan in 2010.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and SM City Marilao once again collaborate in the book launch of Mr. Jaime Salvador Corpuz entitled MOHON: Mga Bulakenyong Biyaya ng Kasaysayan at the mall’s Center Atrium.

MOHON: Mga Bulakenyong Biyaya ng Kasaysayan highlights prominent Bulakenyos who have played vital roles in the Philippine history and excelled in their chosen fields.

In an introduction made by Ma. Luisa T. Camagay, Ph. D., a respected historian from the University of the Philippines – Diliman, she lauded the effort made by Mr. Corpuz. “It is imperative for a province to come-up with this kind of book because it gives an identity to a place by giving tribute to its great sons and daughters and/or adopted sons and daughters that have brought prestige to their province”, furthered Camagay.

She also added that the book has indexes that contain the name of the personalities arranged in alphabetical order and in accordance of their field of excellence for easy reader-access.

According to Mr. Corpuz from its inception in 1998, he made a thorough research and studies for him to come-up with the finest name that brings honor to the province of Bulacan. The book aims to elevate the appreciation of local history and promote the rich cultural heritage of the province not only among tourists but with Bulakenyos as well.

Corpuz is currently the cultural director of Arte Bulakenyo Foundation, Inc. He is also affiliated with the Philippine Centennial Commission as its former project manager, Center for Bulacan Studies , Bulacan Heritage Conservation Society and Bulacan Tourism Convention and Visitors Board (BTCVB).

Likewise, Mr. Corpuz is the My City My SM honoree for Bulacan in 2010.

Among Corpuz's books are Isang Kasaysayan, Isang Marilaw (1996), The Poblete Clan of Cavite (1997), Bulakeña: Anyo at Kasaysayan ng Baro't Saya (1999, co-author), Ang Malulos sa mga Dahon ng Kasaysayan (2000, ed), Lupang Tinubuan Mga Tula at Liham Pag-ibig nina Leoncio S. Gonzales at Montano D. Esguerra ng Marilao, Bulacan 1926-1975 (2007), Calendario Bulakeño 900AD-2007 (2009).

MOHON: Mga Bulakenyong Biyaya ng Kasaysayan will be available at National Bookstore in SM City Marilao and other bookstores a week after launching.
