World Water Day Celebration at Bulacan
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 3 in cooperation with SM Supermalls celebrates World Water Day at SM City Marilao. The event highlights the efforts of the Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) Board of the Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System (MMORS).
This year’s theme dubbed as “Malinis na Katubigan para sa Maunlad na Pamayanan” focuses on the impact of rapid urban population growth, industrialization and uncertainties that directly affect the water system.
The event was graced by Hon. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado of Bulacan, 4th District Representative Linabelle Villarica and Atty. Juan Miguel Cuna of EMB DENR.
They have cited the importance of MMORS rehabilitation to veer away from the stigma of its riverways as one of the dirtiest in the world. A lot of effort has been exerted an orderly MMORS.
The program also highlighted the WQMA logo making contest where 21 entries were rated. The logo entry from Caloocan bagged the top prize and will now be officially used by the WQMA board.
Officials were hoping that the program will increase awareness and a unified action to in caring of the river system. This activity is through the tutelage of EMB DENR, Far East Fuel Corp., Blacksmith Institute, Globe Telecom, SM City Baliwag and SM City Marilao.
