In celebration of the August 7 release of Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation’s family comedy The Smurfs™ 2, the studio hosted a 162 day-and-date blue carpet premieres in cities around the world on Global Premiere Day on Sunday, including Manila.
Through this series of special events, the studio rolled out over 11,000 feet of blue carpet in the top 50 cities in North America and 60 international countries, with multiple screenings in many of those countries. Talent from the film attended local premieres around the world. Among the markets hosted premieres, in addition to the Philippines are US, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

In the Philippines, the invitational premiere was held at the SM Mall of Asia Cinema 4, co-presented by Columbia Pictures, SM Cinema, SM Mall of Asia and Mellow 947 Radio, in cooperation with partners Sony Philippines and McDonalds.
In this sequel to the hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs™, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence.
