World’s leading paint and coatings brand Nippon Paint recently announce the start of this year's edition of its renowned competition in interior design and architecture, the Asia Young Designer Award (AYDA) Philippines 2022

The search is now on for Architecture and Interior Design students from the Philippines who will compete in the Asian Finals early next year. This is the ninth year that the country has been participating in AYDA.

Launched in 2008 in Malaysia, AYDA has become one of the most sought-after and highly anticipated industry award programs that encompasses 17 more countries throughout the region, namely: Bangladesh, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Iran, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Turkey. This year marks AYDA’s landmark 15th anniversary.

AYDA is also Nippon Paint’s signature corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that provides a much-needed platform to expose today’s young professionals to design trends, to provide them with mentoring and coaching from renowned Architects and Interior Designers, and to allow them to interact and network cross-culturally with fellow young specifiers from the ASEAN region.

CONVERGE: Pushing the Reset Button

Every year, students in the field of interior design and architecture are challenged on a particular theme to come up with innovative ideas in changing the way that people live, as influenced by design. This year’s theme is entitled “CONVERGE: Pushing the Reset Button.” The official theme launch was held on September 16, 2022 at F1 Hotel Manila, BGC.

Since the Philippines began participating in the competition in 2014, AYDA has been making a huge positive impact on the growing interest and passion of young Filipinos in the areas of interior design and architecture. AYDA have now engaged 17 countries and regions, more than 1,200 education institutions and received more than 41,000 entries to date.

For this year’s Philippine leg of the competition, a panel of respected judges from the interior design and architecture industries both locally and abroad have been assembled in order to select the deserving Filipino representatives to the regional AYDA competition.

Every year, student participants go through a rigorous selection process to present the most creative and innovative ideas at the national level. The winners of each country will represent their nations for the grand title on an international level mentored by a panel of reputable industry professionals, both at national as well as international level.

This competition and award is a non-profit initiative as it is purely a CSR/ inclusive business program by Nippon Paint. Hence, participants are not required to pay any submission fees

The AYDA Awards is part of Nippon Paint’s inclusive business project with the area of focus on education and empowerment to groom budding architects and interior designers across Asia. AYDA aims to become an active advocate in the cultivation of talents for a sustainable future.
