PAGCOR Donated (Almost) 1 Billion Pesos to Department of Education
“The 935 million pesos check was the largest donation the Department of Education ever received,” said DepEd Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro during the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing between PAGCOR & DepEd held at The Heritage Hotel in Pasay City last Wednesday, October 5, 2011.
The said check was handed by PAGCOR Chief Executive Officer Cristano Naguiat, Jr. as funds for the 1,000 Public School Classroom project as part of the “Matuwid na Landas sa Silid-Aralan” project, a partnership between the Department of Education and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation had a Memorandum of Agreement to help address the acute deficiency of classrooms nationwide. DepED will provide funds for the construction of 1,000 classrooms for 2011-2012 while PAGCOR shall allocate the total amount of P935,000,000.00 for the construction of 1,000 classrooms for 2011-2012.
