  • In BGC, you don’t have to be a bona fide artist to create art pieces. It’s a place where everyone can find inspiration and outlets for expressing themselves in unique ways. During Art BGC 2013, the district’s month-long celebration of love for art, more than 200 artists and artisans gathered to draw, paint, perform, and create a variety of artworks. BGC’s non-traditional art activities have made art more enjoyable, participative, and innovative.

Rag Bombing turned BGC into a colorful, vibrant site. Led by members of Rags2Riches Foundation, the activity made use of multi-colored displays of interlaced fabric that were “bombed” or draped around the trees in the area. It’s a fun, no-fuss activity even for the first-time weavers.

Crowd flocked to Bonifacio High Street (BHS) to express their love for their significant others, friends, or family members. Love notes were written at the Love Collage section, while padlocks were made symbols of love and commitment at the Love Locks booth.

Also in BHS, many who love to draw and sketch joined the Doodle Art. Canvases and markers were provided for free to allow doodle enthusiasts create fascinating and unique illustrations. Participants of Chalk the Walk, on the other hand, made colorful chalk drawings on the pavements. Workshops on doodling, coloring, and shading were conducted during this activity as well.

Surprisingly pleasant impromptu performances from individuals strolling in BHS were enjoyed during the Passion Mic, an open-microphone session for those who want to sing, dance, recite poetry, or play a musical instrument. It was a casual chance for everyone to show off their talents. Even kids sang their favorite nursery rhymes.

A most awaited activity during Art BGC was the launch of BGC Art Mart. Craftsmen, artists, and established art galleries gathered for this unique bazaar to exhibit and sell their artworks. Seen were traditional painting and sculpture pieces and a variety of contemporary artworks like prints, shirts, comic books, and accessories. BGC intends to make this art bazaar a regular activity.

Truly, BGC always has an exciting, inventive way of bringing out the artist in all of us.
