SM Malls' Green Effort Continues

Trash Out, Cash in. Visit SM City Baliwag's Recycling Market every first friday and saturday of the month and earn extra money from your junk

As SM becomes part of the communities, its commitment to social responsibility carries on with green initiatives geared to ensure a sustainable impact on the environment and the public it serves.

Green Film Festival
Students from nearby public schools get to watch eye-opening documentaries on the state of our planet during the Green Film Festival. Shown every 3rd Monday and Tuesday of the month at SM Cinema Baliwag and Marilao, films like BBC’s State of the Planet, Brillante Mendoza’s Buhos and Project Noel By Ms. Earth Philippines are showcased to help educate the younger generation on the current ecological crises as well as ways to counter it. Likewise, the BioFuel Seminar aims to orient drivers and public transport units on the importance of biofuel as an alternate source of energy.

Trash to Cash
Looking for ways to earn extra cash from a pile of junk? SM invites the rest of the community to gather used soda cans, plastic bottles, scrap papers, magazines and cardboards and get to trade it for cash at the SM Trash to Cash Recycling Market. Be part of the waste market fair set every 1st Friday and Saturday of the month at the public transport terminal of SM City Marilao and Baliwag.

Eco Bag Campaign
Mall goers can now shop in style while being advocates of Mother Earth. SM Hypermarket’s My Own Bag Campaign encourages customers to bring their own bags every time they shop. Moreover, extra points go to SM Advantage Card holders who will use their own bags or SM’s Eco Bag.

Green Retail Agenda
Latest trends in green retail industry such as water conservation, energy efficiency programs, solid waste management and green architecture are presented during the Green Retail Agenda held annually for mall business partners.

Tree Planting Activities
Spearheaded by the Community Environment and Natural Resources in San Rafael town, SM City Baliwag participated in the Roadside Tree Planting Project in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan. Held last June 16, over a thousand seedlings of fruit-bearing and narra trees were planted as part of the National Greening Program. SM City Baliwag and Marilao will also take part in the Biak na Bato Tree Planting Project of Bulacan State University come July 2011.
