SM City Marilao conducts its mall based earthquake and fire drill as their anticipatory measure in case a disaster occurred in the mall. This is to ensure that all tenants, employees and mall Emergency Response Group (ERG) are ready and equipped with knowledge if these disasters happened.

“We take this exercise seriously” on the statement made by mall manager Engr. Dennis Martel during the briefing done before the drill.

The simulation was stage as realistic as possible to gauge how the mall ERG retorts on situations like these. There were blind mall goers, customers that had been covered and injured by falling debris, traumatized customer and pregnant customers as part of the mock-up. They were carefully attended by the ERG and apply necessary medical attention to the injured customers.

According to F/Supt. Jorge B. Fariñas of Bulacan Provincial BFP, head of the observers, “the drill was good though there are some areas that are needed to be improve but over-all the mall performed well” this declaration was expressed during the assessment meeting right after the drill.

The drill was observed by different government agencies like the Bulacan Provincial BFP, Bulacan Rescue of the Provincial Government of Bulacan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council of Marilao, Marilao BFP and Barangay Ibayo Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

This drill is done twice a year to ensure that every employee working at the mall is prepared in times like emergencies. The next drill that is set later this year will involve a wider scope of responder tapping other agencies to participate in the simulation.
